10 Nov 2008 Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness
 |  Category: ministry

Goodness is your actions. We are to do good deeds for others. And in doing so we show the love of Christ. This isn’t all on the outside though, our heart has to be in the right place. In order for someone to see Christ through our good deeds we are to have love, joy, peace, patience and kindness in our heart in order for goodness to live up to it’s fullest potential.

As a woman God calls us to be attractive through our goodness, not the way we look. 2 Timothy 2:9-10 says, “And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.”

I am a sucker for reality TV, so you’ll have to excuse me, but last week while watching America’s Next Top Model the girls were talking about beauty, and how it shows from the inside out. In order to even get on to this show the girls have to be pretty, but I was impressed by them saying that if someone is not pretty on the inside, it shows on the outside, that true beauty is in your heart.

In Luke 10, we see Martha serving Jesus, doing all of these good deeds, but without goodness. Her heart was not in the right place, she was frustrated and even confronted Jesus about all the work she was doing while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus.

Think again about the person you chose to show kindness towards. This week I challenge you to show goodness to them. What can you do to not just do good deeds for/towards them, but to show them Christ through goodness?
